Real Heart Health

Let's talk about what real heart health really means. Most heart disease is unnecessary and is caused by nutritional deficiencies and imbalances. Perhaps more than any other human organ, the heart needs specific phytonutients to stay healthy and strong. Most American diets are low in the key phytonutrients that the heart muscle must have to stay strong and heal itself. These nutrients are: riboflavin-rich B-vitamin complex, whole vitamin C, whole vitamin E, and calcium.

While you may think these nutrients are common and found in many foods, it is actually quite difficult to acquire the necessary levels of these nutrients through food alone. The typical vitamin supplement will state that it has high levels of the B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E and calcium, but these are almost always synthetic versions that only use fractions of the real "whole" vitamins. These synthetic versions are of little value in the body and provide little if any help in preventing heart disease. The only vitamins that will work to build healthy tissue and a strong immune system which is vital for fighting illness and disease are "whole" natural vitamins like those found in food. It is extremely expensive and difficult to manufacture these types of vitamins, so most suppliers just use the synthetic versions supplied by the drug manufacturers. Unfortunately, these do not work.

We all know people who have been taking mega-vitamins only to fall ill with diabetes, cancer, heart disease or other serious illness. Without "real" vitamins in their whole and natural form, the heart cannot stay healthy and strong. It will develop a sort of beriberi of the heart that is a deficiency lacking in the true B-vitamin complex.

Without adequate vitamin B in your diet, your heart muscle will weaken, lose tone, enlarge, sag and stretch. While the whole vitamin B complex (including b-4) is required for a healthy heart, they work in unison with vitamins C, E, and calcium. But it is important to know that the vitamins C and E that we see in every vitamin supplement are actually only fractions of the real "whole" vitamin. What is sold as standard vitamin C is actually Ascorbic Acid, which is only one isolated fraction of the whole vitamin C complex. The standard vitamin E that is sold is only one or more fractions (tocopherals) of real vitamin E.

Most calcium is poorly absorbed by the body. The best form of calcium to use, but somewhat difficult to find, is calcium lactate. Calcium lactate is unique in being bioavailable in the ionic form—the only form readily available for metabolic function. Calcium is critical in muscle contraction, nerve impulse, and blood coagulation. The only supplier that I know of that makes these phytonutrients in their whole and natural form is Standard Process Labs. You can get the perfect heart health combination in a product called Cardio-Plus from Standard Process Labs that contains the whole B, C and E vitamins, along with calcium lactate and other phytonutrients. Add a good Cod Liver Oil supplement and you are ready for total heart health that cannot be achieved any other way.

Processing of these phytonutrients at Standard Process Labs is accomplished using an exclusive, patented, low-temperature, high-vacuum drying technique. This technique and the patented equipment to complete it preserve the plants' vital nutrient content. Plant nutrients include but are not limited to enzymes, coenzymes, vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, fat-soluble activators, sterols, sterolins, phytochemicals, and all other known and unknown nutritional synergists in their proper balance as only nature provides. These are the only forms of nutrients and vitamins that work well in the human body. If you have heart concerns or just want to prevent illness and keep your heart strong and healthy, you must supply your body with real phytonutrients in the form it can utilize. Anything else is just a waste of your hard earned money.

  1. Great article, I've always wondered and been suspicious about the true value of most off the shelf vitamins. Finally someone explaining it to me in a way that makes sense. Thanks!

  3. Thank you for the insight into how your body really absorbs these vitamins. I suppose my chewable vitamin C and Flinstone vitamins aren't providing me these essential nutrients! It would be great if you could post in the future some suggestions on what foods offer these vitamins naturally.

  4. No, not much benefit from the Flintstones vitamins. And the problem with taking large amounts of synthetic vitamins is that your body must reconstruct them into their "whole" natural form before they can be utilized, so it must rob the missing nutrient components from your organs and your bones to complete the synthetic structure. That is why so many people who take mega-vitamins still get Osteoporosis and other diseases. It isn't the quantity of nutrients you take, it is the quality of the nutrients that your body can actually use. At a minimum I would recommend taking a true food based multivitamin and Fish, Flax or Cod Liver Oil. You can get calcium from dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, sardines and salmon, but avoid soy and dairy products as a major source of calcium. They have other issues that keep them from being a food that you should depend on for health.
