Should You Lower Your Sodium Level?
This might be the most stubborn myth in all of health care. It might also be the most dangerous. It actually puts millions of people at risk -- especially seniors.
If you reduce your sodium intake, you will not protect your heart. You won't even lower your blood pressure. In fact, if you completely avoid sodium, your heart will suffer. You'll be at grave risk.
Of course, this kind of talk makes many medical mainstreamers come unglued. That's okay. We can help them back to reality with some old-fashioned evidence.
And here's a surprise: It comes with a mainstream stamp of authenticity.
Recently, the Institute of Medicine put together a panel to review sodium research. Here's what they found...
There is no evidence that you should keep your sodium intake below 1,500 mg per day.
That's the level previously recommended for patients with high blood pressure. Currently, the American Heart Association recommends that level for everyone. And it's ridiculously low -- just half a teaspoon of salt.
Now, if that were the only myth busted by the IOM panel, that would be huge. But there's more. Much more.
The panel found no evidence that anyone should limit sodium intake to less than 2,300 mg per day. But more importantly, daily intake below that mark can create serious health problems for some people.
Here's why...
Consistently lower sodium levels can contribute to insulin resistance and boost triglycerides. That's devastating! It can actually INCREASE risk of heart disease, liver disease, and type 2 diabetes.
This myth of low sodium benefits hits seniors particularly hard. They often end up with symptoms of hyponatraemia -- low blood levels of sodium. But doctors often dismiss those symptoms because they're conditions that everyone associates with aging: fatigue, confusion, and poor balance.
And now for the kicker. It would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad.
A spokesman for the AHA said... "The American Heart Association is not changing its position."
Of course not!
But they WILL come around. Or they will become irrelevant. This isn't the first time we've seen evidence like this. It sure won't be the last.

It's hard to say, "No!" when someone has their fingers in your mouth. Still, I manage. Because there is no way I'm going to let a dental technician give me a fluoride treatment.
The LAST thing I need is a dangerous, $30 treatment with no benefits.
This is a sneaky technique that dentists use to beef up their cash flow these days. And they just got some help with a new fluoride study.
But I've got a response to that study. And you can use it to help you just say, "No," when your dentist tries to bathe your teeth in flavored fluoride foam.
It's appropriate that a chemical journal published this fluoride study. After all, the fluoride program isn't about dental health. It's just a scam to sell tons of fluoride.
Fluoride is a natural mineral. But the fluoride they put in water is a by-product of the fertilizer industry. Decades ago, someone got the bright idea to foist the unusable fluoride on communities to add to their water supplies. They hyped it as healthy, and a trusting public bought it.
That's why it's in our tap water. It's in our toothpaste. It's even in some bottled waters. And now, your dentist wants to pile on another pointless layer. That's why he might mention this study. And if he does, he'll tell you that it proves that fluoride prevents bacteria from sticking to teeth.
What he won't mention is that the study didn't even use real teeth. Right. Of course not. Real teeth are SO hard to come by.
Look, even if fluoride does what it's supposed to do, there are so many downsides, it just makes no sense at all.
As I've mentioned before, excess fluoride causes dental fluorosis. That's a discoloration of teeth. But it can also cause teeth to pit and crumble. The CDC actually admits that about 40 percent of U.S. children have some level of dental fluorosis.
That's insanely ironic! They put stuff in your water to protect your teeth. But you can't control the dose. And an overdose might ruin your teeth.
But that's not even the worst of it.
Recently, Harvard researchers examined more than two dozen trials that studied cognitive function in children and fluoride exposure. Results show that children who live in high fluoride areas have significantly lower IQ scores than kids in low fluoride areas.
Nobody should be surprised. Animal studies already suggest fluoride might be neurotoxic. Any scant benefit is no more useful to you than standard dental hygiene.
If your dentist suggests fluoride treatment, take a cue from France, Italy, Israel, Japan, Holland, Sweden, China, Austria, Germany, and other countries. They all decided not to put fluoride in their water supplies. Tell your dentist you don't need it either.
Bad to the
bone!
Fluoride... for bone health?
I'd laugh if the idea weren't so irresponsible, because fluoride is about as good for your bone health as a loan shark after you've missed a payment.
The science is so clear on the bone-crunching risks of fluoride that even plenty of mainstream docs won't go near this stuff anymore. But for those who haven't gotten the message, a new study confirms -- yet again -- that it's absolutely 100 percent ineffective for senior women suffering from osteopenia.
That's a bone-thinning condition that can lead to breaks, fractures, and even the far more serious osteoporosis.
In the new study, 180 postmenopausal women were hoodwinked into taking either one of three daily fluoride doses -- 2.5 mg, 5 mg, or 10 mg -- or, for the lucky ones, a placebo.
One year later, the women who ingested this poison had zip to show for it. Tests on bone mineral density in the hip and lumbar spine and tests of overall bone mineral density found no differences at all between women given the toxic supplements and women given the placebo.
None!
Now, it's one thing to simply fail to protect bone. But like I said earlier, fluoride can actually increase fractures. In the new study, there were zero fractures in the placebo group -- but FIVE among the fluoride groups.
And fluoride can do more than just break your bones. It's been linked to bone cancer and about a billion other risks -- up to and including lowering your IQ.
If there's fluoride in your own water, there are two steps you need to take right now. First, install a reverse osmosis filter, which can remove fluoride and all the other common contaminants -- including drugs, hormones, and chemical waste.
And second, contact your elected officials and tell them under no uncertain terms that you want the fluoride OUT of your water.

Why cooking with a
microwave destroys cancer-fighting nutrients in food and promotes nutritional
deficiencies
(NaturalNews) Microwaves absolutely decimate the nutritional value of your food, destroying the very vitamins and phytonutrients that prevent disease and support good health. Previous studies have shown that as much as 98% of the cancer-fighting nutrients in broccoli, for example, are destroyed by microwaving.
To understand why, you have to understand the nature of vitamins and phytonutrients (plant-based nutrients). These are very delicate molecules which are fragile. They are easily destroyed by heat, which is why raw plant foods contain more plant nutrients than cooked foods. Carotenoids, antioxidants and other molecules like DIM (in broccoli) or anthocyanins (in purple corn) are all easily destroyed by microwave energy.

Microwaves "nuke" your food at a cellular level
Microwaving is the worst way to cook foods because microwaves excite the water molecules inside whatever you're cooking, causing heat to be formed from the inside out. This results in a cell-by-cell "nuking" of the food (such as broccoli, carrots, etc.), causing the near-total molecular decomposition of the vitamins and phytonutrients that promote disease.
Microwaved food is not merely "dead" food at every level, it is food that has been molecularly deconstructed, leaving nothing but empty calories, fiber and minerals. Virtually the entire vitamin and phytonutrient content has been destroyed.
Anybody who says microwaving food is a healthy way to cook is wildly ignorant of nutrition and cooking methods. While steaming vegetables is, indeed, a good method for some veggies to help make certain nutrients more bioavailable, microwaving destroys veggies from the inside out at a cellular level.
Don't be fooled by appearances
What's really deceptive about microwave cooking is that the food still appears to be basically the same, but at the cellular level, it's like a nuclear war has taken place. The actual molecular structure has been decimated. If you could see microwaved foods with a powerful microscope, you'd never eat them again because you would recognize just what a nutritional wasteland they really are.
If you want to eat in a healthy way, make sure a significant part of your diet is raw plants. It's okay to eat some steamed, stir-fried or even grilled veggies, but when grilling foods, avoid burning them because all burned parts contain toxic, cancer-causing chemicals that promote colon cancer.
Remember, a person who cooks a lot of their food with microwaves will inevitably have chronic nutritional deficiencies that promote cancer, diabetes, bone diseases, loss of brain function, heart disease and many other health problems. The least healthy people of any society are typically the ones who frequently use the microwave oven to "nuke" their foods.
Until next time, stay healthy and happy
