Statins Cause Diabetes, Beer is Good, Fluoride Lowers IQ

Statins Cause Diabetes
By Jenny Thompson at Health Science Institute

The headline said "breaking news." But it's more like heartbreaking news.

Because while more and more studies are showing us just how dangerous statins are, the vultures are circling more than ever.

And they are headed straight for your doctor's office. Big Pharma's latest plans for selling statins is very targeted -- with just about every single one of us in the crosshairs.

You know that old high cholesterol myth -- the one that's been drummed into us for years. Well, it didn't seem to be selling enough statins to satisfy the profit-hungry drug makers. So their buddies at the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology put a "calculator" together to fix that problem.

That did away with the spin-the-wheel game of 'cholesterol target numbers' and replaced it with a simple seven-question quiz.

And wait until you see what that means for us...

The numbers -- just published in the New England Journal of Medicine -- show that practically all men over 60 and just about 50 percent of everyone else over 40 meet the new standards for a regular dose of Lipitor.

This is the first "independent" look at the impact of these new guidelines. And it boils down to this -- an immediate increase of over 13 million who will now "need" statins.

When the AHA and ACC "calculator" was first unveiled last year, experts from Harvard said it had "serious flaws" that could overestimate a person's risk of heart disease by up to 150 percent. And they warned the heart groups about that over a year before this deadly 'recalculation' was released, saying it just didn't work.

And the Harvard folks weren't the only ones asking them to put the brakes on it. The top heart doc at the Cleveland Clinic also said it needed further evaluation before being "implemented on a widespread basis."

And that's probably because when statin sales go up, cases of diabetes go up with them.

In fact, a new study found that among statin users, one in every five new cases of diabetes was linked to the drug.

Let me say that again -- one in five! And women appear to be much more prone to this diabetes risk than men. If they did a study using only women, who knows what that number would be?!

But that's not the only known side effect. Others include impotence, cataracts, muscle pains, mental impairment, fatigue, and liver dysfunction.

And they want more of us to sign up for this than ever!

But over in the U.K. they've been sounding the alarm -- loudly.

The deputy chairman of the British Medical Association has said that plans to increase statin use would "only benefit drug companies." Others said they will urge their government to "reconsider its move" before it puts millions more Brits at risk.

One even likened it to keeping "people from dying from heart disease by pushing them off a cliff." We're lucky the drug companies haven't figured out how to charge our insurance companies for pushing us off a cliff...

Beer May Be As Beneficial As Wine

You know how we're always being told about the health benefits of drinking a glass of wine with dinner? Well, now it appears that having a beer isn't such a bad idea, either. In fact, benefits include antioxidants that, like wine, can help keep your heart healthy and reverse damage to cells.

It's even good for your muscles. Research done at Spain's University of Granada found that beer in moderation is actually a better beverage for athletes than water.

But if you always buy the "lite" kind, you won't be getting the same benefits. Darker brews have the antioxidant advantage, according to a recent study.

Of course this isn't a green light to polish off a six-pack in one sitting.

But with that in mind, beer lovers can now lift a glass (or a bottle) to each other's health just like their Chardonnay-toting friends.

The Truth About Fluoride Now Becoming More Widely Known

By Dr. Mercola

One hundred and thirty communities in the US have stopped fluoridating their water and 97% of Europe does not allow fluoridation

Fluoride is a poisonous substance added to many municipal water supplies across the US, Canada, and elsewhere without the permission of the residents. Is there a model that communities can follow to remove it from their water supply? The short answer to this question is yes.

Dr. Paul Connett, a chemist by training and director of the Fluoride Action Network (FAN), is recognized worldwide as a leader in the movement to eliminate fluoride from municipal water supplies, and I'm pleased to be working with him to achieve this goal.

He's been active in this area for decades, becoming an environmental activist shortly after joining St. Lawrence University in 1983. Then, in 1996, his wife alerted him to the problems of water fluoridation.

"I started to read what she'd given me, and I was embarrassed that I had fallen victim of this American brainwashing," he says. "The American message from the public health establishment is that everybody in the world says fluoridation is great.

They forgot the fact that most of the world does not fluoridate; 97 percent of Europe does not fluoridate, thank you very much. The other tactic has been to denigrate opponents of fluoridation – flat earth society, crazy people. And I apologize, because I fell victim to that."

Countering the Status Quo

The book, The Case Against Fluoride, was the culmination of years of joint investigation by Dr. Connett and James Beck, an MD, Ph.D. physicist from Calgary, and Spedding Micklem, who has a doctorate in biology from Oxford. In addition to a clear discussion about the toxic effects of fluoride, it contains 80 pages-worth of references to the scientific literature on fluoride.

The primary strategy that promoters of water fluoridation use is to establish that authorities say: "It's good; it's safe and effective," and that "people who oppose fluoridation are stupid, stupid, stupid." This strategy is basically aimed at keeping you from looking at the actual science.

"What the Fluoride Action Network has done, and done in spades, is we made the literature readily available – not just a little of it, but all of it," Dr. Connett says.

"Even material that is pro-fluoridation is accessible through our website. If anybody wants to check that out, go to our website, FluorideAlert.org. On the top right hand corner of the homepage, you'll see a button that says Researchers. If you click on that, you'll get a menu of issues. In that menu, if you click on Health Effects Database, you get another menu of all the tissues that fluoride could interfere with. It's a tremendous database.

...My son is now going to archives around the country, digging up the information that's being suppressed. We now know that, for years, they've been suppressing information about the harm that fluoride causes.

The industry hid information that fluoride was damaging the workers of the aluminum, steel, and other industries, with the help of the Sloan-Kettering Institute and the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research.

These institutes do research for industry, but only publish the results that are favorable to industry, and hide the results that were not favorable. And of course, what's sickening about all of this is that there was collusion between these people that were hiding the information and the US Public Health Service. The very service that they set up to protect your health was colluding with industry to suppress information."

Recent Victories

Since about 2009, about 130 communities have stopped water fluoridation. Canada has dropped from about 60 percent of the population drinking fluoridated water down to about 32 percent. Victories have also been logged in New Zealand and across the US. Four major developments in the last 13 to 14 months include:

·    Last year's success in Portland, OR, where efforts to start water fluoridation were thwarted despite the pro-fluoride side spending about one million dollars to force the issue. They were even paying local associations $20,000 just to come out in support of fluoridation. Fortunately, their scheme didn't work, and Portland is now the largest city in the US that does not fluoridate its water

·    Wichita, Kansas also won its battle against fluoridation last year, after getting 60 percent of the votes in the referendum, despite being considerably outspent by the fluoride proponents

·    Queensland lifted the mandatory requirement for fluoridation, which opened the floodgates and led to 17 district councils stopping fluoridation (or deciding not to start). In total, this affects about 45 different towns

·    The new minister of health in Israel announced that this year, she's lifting the mandatory fluoride requirement in Israel. Hopefully, this will lead to many communities ending their water fluoridation programs.

My Comment:

The EPA lists fluoride as a hazardous waste yet they allow and even support adding it to our water supply.  That goes against everything that common sense tells us about adding a poison to our water when the whole goal is to prevent ANY poisons from being in our water supply.  It has been proven many times in studies around the world that adding fluoride to the water does not prevent cavities but it does cause an array of health issues including lowering our IQ.

If your community has fluoride in the water then you need to buy a water filter to remove it along with the chlorine which is also listed by the EPA as a poison.  Many people and especially children are even more sensitive to the two poisons fluoride and chlorine and it is imperative that they not be exposed to them on a daily basis.  The US Public Health Service  has failed the very population it was formed to protect. As usual, we are on our own and are forced to protect ourselves.  Educate yourself and take the necessary precautions to provide clean food and water in your home.  And keep reading my blog to get the latest information and be one of the informed.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
