Soy and Cancer, Fats Research, Spirulina Superfood, Zinc for Colds, Supplements and Surgery, Colgate Toothpaste

Soy is like STEROIDS for breast tumors

I have mentioned several times how dangerous soy can be especially for women because of how it mimics estrogen and causes all kinds of problems.

Researchers from Memorial Sloan Kettering have shown that soy acts like an activator for breast tumors!

Women with early-stage breast cancer spent only TWO WEEKS taking a daily soy supplement, but it may have given them permanent damage to their health. Just 14 days of soy was all it took to activate a key gene that's been linked to tumor growth and aggressive cancer.

You see, soy has many chemicals that mimic estrogen in your body and can act like rocket fuel for existing tumors -- even tumors that should NEVER have been dangerous in the first place.

Soy has already been linked to dementia, and research has revealed it can even turn males from studs to duds in the sack. A major Harvard study found that eating just ONE SERVING OF SOY PER DAY can cut your sperm count in half!

Even if you followed my advice and kicked the soy habit years ago, you still may be at risk. Soy is used as cheap filler in many of the processed and packaged foods you'll find at your local supermarket. Even your favorite cookies and crackers could be loaded with dangerous levels of soy!

So avoid eating soy no matter what the media tells you about how good it is for you. The U.S. government pays millions to subsidize the growing of soy as a cheap protein source so they have to sell as much as they can, and you are the target.

Here is the Latest Research on Fats

  • A brand new study from Tulane University published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that cutting your carbs -- NOT fat -- will do more to help you lose weight and protect your heart than any tasteless, low-fat diet ever could.
  • Not only did the people in this study lose weight eating eggs, butter and red meat, but they showed a healthy increase in HDL -- the "good" kind of cholesterol.
  • This spring, other research, also published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that a kind of dairy fat called margaric acid can "significantly reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease." And guess where you can find a great source of this margaric acid? In butter!
  • A big study published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine last year found that a Mediterranean-type diet -- one high in olive oil and other good fats, like those found in nuts -- will slash your diabetes risk by a whopping 40 percent. And, for people who already have diabetes, eating this way lowered their heart attack and stroke risk by 30 percent.

My Comment:

Eating real butter instead of margarine or other artificial fats is a much heathier approach and tastes better too. Even though regular butter is good for you, nothing is as good as “grass fed” butter and beef. Grass fed cows produce much higher levels of Omega 3’s and other important nutrients that you will not find in factory raised cows fed unnatural grain diets. Grass fed cow butter is an important ingredient of a non-inflammatory diet to lower heart disease and arthritis. You can find “Kerrygold” Irish grass fed butter at Trader Joes for a good price and it is also available at many large grocery stores.  It is worth the slightly higher cost to get the extra health benefits.

Spirulina: Here's what you need to know about this healing superfood

(NaturalNews) One of the oldest life forms on Earth, spirulina is a blue-green microalgae that helped produce the oxygen in our atmosphere billions of years ago so that other life forms could appear. The original 'superfood,' spirulina is so nutrient dense that you could survive on it and water alone.

Hundreds of studies have confirmed spirulina's powerhouse status. It has 60-70% complete protein, meaning it has all 8 essential amino acids and 10 non-essential ones that support good health. That's more protein than beef, chicken or soybeans. According to Balch, it contains concentrations of nutrients "unlike any other single grain, herb, or plant." Some of its other valuable components include: gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, vitamin B12, iron, nucleic acids RNA & DNA, chlorophyll and phycocyanin, which is found only in blue-green algae and has been shown to increase survival rates in mice with liver cancer (Balch).

Spirulina is highly digestible, protects the immune system, aids in mineral absorption and reduces cholesterol. Originally from warm alkaline lakes in Africa and Central and South America, spirulina was consumed by Aborigines of those places (including the Aztecs) for centuries, verifying its safety and healthful effects on the body.

Why take it?

In his book Eat to Live, Dr. Joel Fuhrman talks about the importance of eating nutrient-rich foods to maintain healthy weight, avoid or correct chronic and degenerative disease and maximize longevity. Spirulina is perhaps the most nutritious food source known to humans and has been used all over the world for centuries for both its nutritional density and its medicinal qualities.

Spirulina is a source of vitality and life energy. Consumers of spirulina usually notice an increase in energy and overall health. It supplies nutrients needed to cleanse and heal while providing protection from all kinds of cancers as well as multiple viruses including influenza, herpes, mumps, measles and AIDS.

It's common knowledge that we should all eat fish for the omega fatty acid content. Where do fish get their high omega content? Blue-green algae like spirulina. Omegas are essential in fighting heart disease, reducing arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, and depression as well as lowering bad cholesterol. The high content of vitamin B12 makes it excellent for the development of healthy nerve tissue and the metabolism of every cell in the body. This means spirulina helps with nerve damage and diseases such as fibromyalgia. Spirulina is also known for its high content of beta carotene, which is converted into vitamin A, an essential nutrient needed for healthy immunity, teeth, bones, mucous membranes, skin and eyes

Spirulina also contains all the other B vitamins, vitamin D, vitamin K, vitamin E, calcium, chromium, copper, iodine, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium and zinc. It has various antioxidants, phytonutrients and carotenoids. It protects the brain and detoxifies the liver and kidneys. It balances pH to reduce inflammation, the root of much disease. It balances the immune system, including calming an overactive one, which is significant because overactive (or inflamed) immune systems are responsible for autoimmune diseases (http://www.naturalnews.com/035938_superfoods_nutrition_healing.html). These usually have their root in poor nutrition and digestion, which spirulina also helps correct.

Additional Benefits

Its superfood status means spirulina has many more benefits. It increases antioxidant protection, fights free radicals, fights the aging process, curbs appetite and promotes weight loss, supports health cardiovascular function, improves the digestion process and gastrointestinal health, creates beneficial flora in the digestive tract and makes the body produce more red and white blood cells which kill germs and viruses.

Spirulina's antimicrobial effects help control the growth of pathogenic bacteria and yeasts. The chlorophyl means it is a blood cleanser. It also oxygenates the blood. Polysaccharides improve the functionality of bone marrow, thymus, and spleen cells

Spirulina is good for the skin too: it improves age spots, eczema, acne and rashes. It's good for the eyes as well, helping with glaucoma, cataracts and poor vision

Studies have shown that spirulina improves allergies and respiratory function and enhances exercise performance (http://www.naturalnews.com).

Balch says taking spirulina between meals is beneficial for hypoglycemics because the high protein content stabilizes blood sugar levels.

How to get it in your diet

Spirulina is named for the spiraling shape it makes as it grows. It grows best in warm, fresh water lakes, but is also found in saltwater and natural springs. It is what gives bodies of water their dark green color. It is harvested and turned into a thick paste, dried, and packed into powder or flakes to be turned into tablets or capsules.

It is highly digestible and does not have the tough cell wall that others algae have. You can get flakes to add to food or smoothies, but most prefer to take it as a supplement, in pill form.

Other things you should know

Spirulina is one of the main go-to foods for protection from harmful radiation. It protects the organs and helps detoxify the radiation out of the body (
http://www.naturalnews.com/031779_spirulina_radiation.html). It was used to treat the children of Chernobyl.

Spirulina has no side effects; it is very safe. It does contain iodine, to which some may be allergic. If you haven't detoxed in a while, add it to your regime slowly or you may experience the ill effects of detoxing.

It is inexpensive, easy to find and it stores well. It is a great addition to your diet (as well as your disaster kit) so stock up!

The cure for the common cold

Not long ago the FDA came down on the makers of zinc-based cold remedies -- and came down hard -- for allegedly making unsubstantiated health claims.

Well, how's this for substantiated: A new analysis of 17 studies finds that zinc-based remedies cut cold duration by an average of 1.7 days. And in adults who took 75 mg a day or higher, cold duration was slashed by nearly three days.

That's right in line with other studies I've told you about over the years, so next time you get a cold ignore the bullies in DC and reach for some zinc.

Supplements and Surgery

By Jenny Thompson at HSI

Every few years my friend Lily visits a plastic surgeon. He removes squamous cell skin cancer lesions.

At their first appointment she told him about her supplement use. He duly noted each item and advised her to stop using gingko biloba about a week before surgery. Gingko thins the blood. And with any surgery, there will be blood.

When that doctor retired, he recommended a new surgeon.

So, starting again at square one, she went in for their first pre-op examination. But when she started to tell him about her supplement use, he stopped her. He said, "I'm sure that won't be an issue."

Her first thought: "Uh oh. Is this a red flag?" Lily knew the drill. She stopped using gingko before the surgery. Everything went fine. No harm. No foul.

But she was right about the red flag. No doctor should dismiss patient supplement use. And with surgeons, this oversight is potentially very dangerous.

Researchers at Cleveland's University Hospitals clearly respect supplement use.

They conducted a review to assess the benefits and risks of widely used herbal supplements. From that analysis, they compiled this list of herbs to avoid in the two weeks prior to surgery...

  • For bleeding effects: gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, dong quai, feverfew, fish oils
  • For drug interactions: echinacea, goldenseal, licorice, St. John's wort, kava, valerian root
  • For cardiovascular effects: ephedra, garlic
  • For anesthetic effects: valerian root, St. John's wort, kava
  • For photosensitivity effects: St. John's wort, dong quai
  • For hypoglycemia effects: ginseng
The study discusses potential surgical drawbacks of each of these herbs except one: fish oils. Obviously, fish oils are not herbs. But the authors don't explain why they strayed outside the world of botanicals to include this item on their list.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
The C effect
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Cleveland study has one drawback. It focuses only on herbal use. This might leave the impression that vitamin supplements have no impact on surgery.

But that's not the case. As Dr. Spreen has pointed out, high levels of vitamin C complicate anesthesia.

Dr. Spreen: "Very high doses of C over time cause the body to 'awaken' dormant enzyme systems. For those people, I tell them to TAPER the C over time, reaching nearly zero just before surgery (not weeks before).

"This is because such high doses are good enough detoxifiers that more anesthetic drugs may be necessary to keep you under. BUT, the absolute INSTANT you tolerate oral intake, you jack the C back up to heroic levels."

In addition, Dr. Spreen recommends other supplements -- including a good (whole food)multi vitamin -- should be taken generously after surgery.

The post-op Spreen list...

  • Vitamin A
  • B complex
  • Vitamin E
  • Selenium
  • NAC
  • Alpha lipoic acid
  • Milk thistle extract
  • Zinc
  • Omega 3 fatty acids

Are you fighting cavities with a cancer-linked chemical?

The FDA approved a billion-dollar mega-corporation's plan to fight tooth decay with CANCER! And they've spent YEARS trying to keep you in the dark about it.

It's been 17 years since the FDA approved Colgate-Palmolive's application for Total toothpaste, which is loaded with dangerous triclosan that's been linked to everything from hormone disorders to cancer. And Bloomberg reporters have spent a lot of that time trying to figure out how the heck this tooth-tidying terror EVER came to market. Triclosan is also used in anti-bacterial soaps which are so popular these days. Avoid these too.

When journalists first demanded to see the application... and the science our government used to make its decision... the FDA delivered the application with entire sections completely redacted (blacked out)!

REDACTED? Who do these monkeys think they are? The CIA?

These weren't some top-secret government docs, yet it took a lawsuit to see what Uncle Sam was hiding up his sleeve. Now we know -- and the toxicology report is ugly.

The application for Total included a report admitting that triclosan was associated with bone malformation in animals. And that's not all triclosan may do-- it's been linked to breast cancer and in one animal study it appeared to reduce heart function by 25%!

Experts are wondering whether the FDA even read the Total application at all. Well, I'm guessing they DID do a whole bunch of studying. They studied the name "Colgate-Palmolive" on the cover, then studied the company's ledger of high-priced lobbyists and, finally, concluded "What the heck? It's only toothpaste."

Whether they're putting small trays into their mouth or applying gels that could peel the paint off a Buick, it’s amazing what people are willing to do for whiter teeth.

So ban triclosan soaps and toothpastes starting today. Get this garbage out of your bathroom forever. Because all the FDA's black markers can't erase one simple fact -- these toxic tubes are practically tumors waiting to happen.

And while we are at it, be sure to only use non-fluoride toothpaste to avoid adding another known toxic poison like fluoride in your mouth. There are many good brands of toothpaste available without the chemicals and poisons in the big name brands.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
