No Vitamin Deaths, Psoriasis Help, Vit. C Lowers Heart Risk, Alzheimer's Treatment, Cure For Diabetes?

No Deaths from ANY Dietary Supplement

As Reported by Orthomolecular Medicine News Service
Andrew W. Saul, Editor

(OMNS Jan 16, 2015) There was not even one death caused by any dietary supplement in 2013, according to the most recent information collected by the U.S. National Poison Data System. The new 251-page annual report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers, published in the journal Clinical Toxicology (1), shows no deaths whatsoever from any dietary supplement.

Additionally, there were zero deaths from any amino acid or herbal product. This means no deaths at all from blue cohosh, echinacea, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, kava kava, St. John's wort, valerian, yohimbe, Asian medicines, ayurvedic medicines, or any other botanical. There were zero deaths from creatine, blue-green algae, glucosamine, chondroitin, melatonin, or any homeopathic remedy.

Furthermore, there were zero deaths from any dietary mineral supplement. This means there were no fatalities from calcium, magnesium, chromium, zinc, colloidal silver, selenium, iron, or multimineral supplements. Reported in the "Electrolyte and Mineral" category were two fatalities from the medical use of "Sodium and sodium salts." These are not dietary supplements.

The U.S. National Poison Data System is "the only comprehensive, near real-time, poisoning surveillance database in the United States. In 2013, poison professionals at the nation's 55 poison centers managed about 2.2 million human poison exposures, with children younger than 6 accounting for about half of all poison exposure cases."

No man, woman or child died from any nutritional supplement. Period.

If nutritional supplements are allegedly so "dangerous," as the FDA, the news media, and even some physicians still claim, then where are the bodies?

My Comment:

This just confirms why I put so much effort into taking a more natural approach to health. There is absolutely no comparison between a drug treatment regimen and a vitamin or natural supplement approach. Just compare the death rate of prescription drug related deaths at over 100,000 per year with ZERO deaths from vitamins and supplements. And yet the FDA spends vast amounts of time and money fighting the supplement industry. Now who do you really think they are protecting?

Psoriasis Help

By Jenny Thompson at Health Science Institute

Recently, I cued up a video to watch online and was given the choice of watching one long commercial at the beginning, or watching several short commercials interspersed throughout.

I bit the bullet, went with the long commercial, and was treated to a heartwarming scene of happy friends sitting on the dock of a lake house.

But right away there was trouble.

The narrator was a middle-aged woman, forced indoors, away from her friends, due to "embarrassing, flaky, painful, red patches" caused by plaque psoriasis.

Then the tone turned upbeat again after she began using Humira, an injectable drug that treats psoriasis lesions. Now she was outside, laughing with her husband and friends. And the only thing that spoiled this happy scene was a sudden switch to a new narrator who explained...

"Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious sometimes fatal events can occur, such as infections, lymphoma, and other types of cancer, blood, liver, and nervous system problems, serious allergic reactions, and new or worsening heart failure."

Our happy psoriasis patient clearly wasn't hearing all that, because throughout this disclaimer she kept smiling, apparently unaware she was casting the shadow of potential infections, heart failure and cancer over every one of her days.

What's stupefying is that the FDA allows billions of dollars worth of Humira and other drugs in this class of TNF-alpha blockers (Enbrel, Remicade) to be sold every year while safer alternative methods are available.

Suppressing your immune system and putting yourself at risk of side effects that read like a list of medieval punishments should be your last ditch choice in attempting to control psoriasis.

Better to start off by keeping it simple.

A few years ago I received a note from an HSI member named Angus who said he tried psoriasis medications with no success. So when his psoriasis began spreading (on both his scalp and legs) he began to feel desperate.

Angus: "Something in the back of my mind (I read all your emails and monthly newsletters) said to me that when the liver can't clean the blood properly the results can show up on the skin.

"So I got out a bottle of liquid milk thistle and started taking two tablespoons a day. One in the morning and one in the late evening.

"The result is -- drum roll please -- the psoriasis on my legs has cleared up and gone away, and my scalp is almost completely cleared up. I expect within a couple of months I will be psoriasis free for the first time in about 15 years. "Hope this info can help others."

I'm sure that info WILL help others. After all, milk thistle supports liver health, and poor liver function is one of the triggers that sets off psoriasis.

But if milk thistle doesn't bring relief, there are other ways that probably will.

As I've mentioned before, some psoriasis patients reduce symptoms with moderate daily sun exposure, which increases vitamin D levels. Essential fatty acids in fish oil and flax seed are also beneficial for many patients.

And several years ago I told you about an extract of mahonia aquifolium (also known as the Oregon grape) which has been proven to be effective in treating psoriasis.

There are a number of products based on mahonia aquifolium, marketed under the brand name of M-Folia. These products include ointment and cream preparations, shampoo, sunscreen, and bath oil, which can provide relief from eczema as well as psoriasis.

In a rational world, every Humira advertisement would begin with a disclaimer, noting that psoriasis patients really should try M-Folia, fish oil, flax seed, or milk thistle before they put their lives at risk with a potentially dangerous drug.

Increase Your Vitamin C, Lower Your Risk of Heart Failure.

Simple as that.

In a study reported earlier this year in the American Heart Journal, researchers found that subjects with the lowest blood levels of vitamin C had the highest risk of heart failure, while those with the highest C had the lowest heart failure risk.

When researchers at Orthomolecular Medicine took those results and crunched them with Centers for Disease Control heart failure data, they estimated that well over 200,000 deaths could be prevented each year if everyone in the U.S. would take steps to get sufficient C intake every day.

Imagine saving enough lives to fill a couple of football stadiums!

And here's the most remarkable part: No mega-doses of vitamin C are necessary. The OM team estimates that just 500 mg daily is all that would be required.

Of course, we can't force each citizen to take daily C supplements. But you can probably make that happen in your own home.

And that really is the best place to start when it comes to life-saving supplements.

Alzheimer's Treatment Breakthrough

It's a war that's claiming over 500,000 lives a year.

And as we fight the battle against Alzheimer's, it often looks like there's no hope on the horizon. Especially for those in the front lines -- anyone who's caring for a loved one with this terrible disease.

But finally, it looks as if a breakthrough has been discovered. A find that might just solve the Alzheimer's "puzzle" once and for all. Something that can actually reverse symptoms of the disease.

And this wonderful discovery didn't involve Big Pharma at all.

Big Pharma continues to be a bust on all fronts. In fact, its latest attempt at a cure is just a combo of two drugs already on the market, Aricept and Namenda. Both drugs that we already know are practically worthless.

The FDA even told Pfizer (in a warning about its misleading TV commercials): "the majority of patients (who took the drug) experienced no change or became worse on Aricept treatment."

Let me say that again: Most of the patients who took Aricept either had no improvement or got worse.

But as the drug companies have been manipulating the system to try to get their "new" med approved and on pharmacy shelves, researchers at UCLA were announcing a truly remarkable discovery.

One that didn't involve any drugs at all.

Because out at UCLA, Alzheimer's researchers have taken a quite different approach.

Instead of just focusing on a single piece of the puzzle, they looked at three dozen. Things like sources of inflammation, nutritional deficiencies and imbalances.

And what they were able to do was nothing short of amazing. And they did it with actual patients, not rats!

The study was small, with only 10 people enrolled, but it worked -- reversing symptoms of dementia in all but one of the participants.

That's right, 9 out of 10 were able to have their symptoms reversed! And it only took a few months.

One man even said he's in better mental shape now than he ever was before.

The 10 study patients were carefully examined, with blood tests, brain scans and other evaluations done by the doctors. And most were found to have 10 to 24 "problems" that could be causing their dementia.

"Each one of these things contribute a small piece of the puzzle," said study author Dr. Dale Bredesen. He compared the disease to "a roof with 36 holes in it."

For example, some people have "bigger holes" in one area, and need to focus on treatments for that, said Dr. Bredesen.

And those treatments consisted of things like raising vitamin D levels, using supplements such as DHA, improving gut health and carefully controlled fasting to normalize blood sugar levels, as well as consumption of more fresh fruits and veggies.

And most importantly, giving up all those processed foods loaded with risky additives.

One man in the study who was in such bad shape that he was sure his driver's license would be taken from him, booted all simple carbs and processed foods out of his diet. He also started exercising more, along with taking probiotics, coconut oil, herbs and other supplements.

After being on the program for six months his symptoms of dementia were gone. At 71, not only is he still driving, he's still working.

Dr. Bredesen said that he's not surprised Alzheimer's drugs do nothing, as they only address a patch for "one hole."

And now, it looks like we're 36 steps closer to patching all those holes and hopefully solving this heartbreaking riddle once and for all.

Have Cornell Researchers Discovered A Vitamin Cure For Diabetes?

Many experts claim you can beat diabetes with salad and a gym membership. Eat right and exercise, and your blood sugar will fall into line.

The only problem? There are more than 6 million type 2 diabetics in America right now... about 21 percent of all diabetes patients... who are in great shape and have stomachs as flat as ironing boards. If that sounds like you -- and if you're still struggling to control your blood sugar -- some brilliant Cornell researchers may have ended your frustration forever.

Because they're claiming that a simple vitamin available in dozens of delicious foods -- or as a supplement for a few cents a day -- may hold the key to living life diabetes-free.

In a study on mice, researchers found that vitamin A helps your body produce the beta cells that make insulin. When researchers removed vitamin A from the mice, beta cells died, the mice produced less insulin, and their blood sugar skyrocketed.

They became diabetic.

I'm always reluctant to get too carried away with studies on mice, but there's plenty of evidence proving that vitamin A may be the secret to conquering diabetes.

You've probably heard about global health campaigns to give vitamin A drops to people in the Third World to prevent blindness. But what you may not have heard is that these same people deficient in vitamin A are developing diabetes at an alarming rate. About 80 percent of the world's diabetes patients live in the Third World -- and they didn't get the disease from being obese.

And you don't have to be malnourished to develop a vitamin A deficiency. Some people have trouble absorbing vitamin A and other folks don't get enough of the fresh vegetables, meat and poultry that are loaded with the vitamin

Nearly 20 years ago, two Air Force medical researchers warned that America could be suffering from an epidemic of undiagnosed vitamin A deficiency. Of course, since that time, the diabetes rate in America has nearly doubled.

Now taking a vitamin A supplement isn't a free license to start every day with a dozen donuts and a milkshake. As I have told you many times, a diet rich in processed foods and added sugars will put you on the path to everything from diabetes to cancer.

But if you're worried about your blood sugar and are looking for some extra support, get your vitamin A levels checked and talk to your doctor about a supplement program. This may be the easiest -- and cheapest -- diabetes cure you ever find.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
