No Vitamin Deaths, We Need Vit C, Soda Is Worse, Gulf War Treatment, Milk Causes Osteoporosis, Tamiflu, Fluoride and Thyroid Disease

No Deaths from Vitamins. Absolutely None.

31 Years of Supplement Safety Once Again Confirmed by America's Largest Database

by Andrew W. Saul, Editor

(OMNS Jan 14, 2015) There were no deaths whatsoever from vitamins in the year 2013. The 31st annual report from the American Association of Poison Control Centers shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins. And, there were no deaths whatsoever from vitamin A, niacin, vitamin B-6, any other B-vitamin, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, or any vitamin at all.

Zero deaths from vitamins. Want to bet this will never be on the evening news?

Well over half of the U.S. population takes daily nutritional supplements. If each of those people took only one single tablet daily, that makes about 170,000,000 individual doses per day, for a total of well over 60 billion doses annually. Since many people take far more than just one single vitamin tablet, actual consumption is considerably higher, and the safety of vitamin supplements is all the more remarkable.

Now compare that to drugs with over 100,000 deaths a year. Not much of a discussion is it?

Vitamin C – We Need More

Here are some interesting facts about vitamin C

  • A 15-pound wild monkey takes in about 600 mg of vitamin C a day from its food.
  • An average human being weighs 180 pounds. That is the weight of twelve monkeys; twelve monkeys would get 7,200 mg of vitamin C.
  • But the US RDA for vitamin C for a human is only 90 mg/day for adult males; only 75 mg/day for adult females.
  • That means that your vitamin C RDA is just over 1% that of a monkey. Monkeys get 90 times more vitamin C than the government says people need.
Healing people with vitamins makes sense, but it doesn't make dollars. That is why you MUST be responsible for your own health. Make the effort, learn the truth, and protect your health through nutrition. There is no other way.

Soda…..It’s Worse Than You Thought

Article by Jenny Thompson at Health Science Institute

Soda would never be called a health drink.  But new research paints a much darker picture than we thought.

Because it looks like even one -- that's right, one single bottle a day, can have the same impact on your body as...smoking. It has to do with how it affects the protective "caps" at the end of our chromosomes in all our cells called telomeres.

We've all heard how sweetened sodas can lead to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. And more recently, I told you about studies linking it to kidney damage and kidney disease. But what this research uncovered is even more frightening.

The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, was the first time anyone looked at the effect soda might have on our telomeres. Things that shorten telomeres are considered to be the big "killers" of modern life. Things like stress, lack of exercise, chemicals, and smoking.

Now you can add to that list Coke and Pepsi -- and dozens of other sodas. And don't think that only matters if you always have a can in your hand. Because it looks like where soda is concerned, there is no safe amount.

The study found that the more soda you drink, the shorter your telomeres. But it also found that as little as 8 ounces of soda a day (less than one can) can kick-start that accelerated aging.

And if you drink 20-ounces a day, the researchers found that the damage to your telomeres would be the same as in smokers. Think about that: one 20-ounce soda a day can shorten your life as much as smoking!

One of the authors said that the cause may be that super-high dose of sweeteners that we put in our bodies "within seconds." And that drinking soda is "uniquely toxic to metabolism."

Of course we all know what almost all sodas are sweetened with -- high fructose corn syrup. And there have certainly been enough studies showing how toxic that is. And, of course, the answer isn't to go the "diet soda" route. That's uniquely toxic in its own special way.

I recently told you about a new study that tracked nearly 60,000 women, looking for big health risks in their habits. And those who regularly drank as little as two diet drinks a day had a much higher risk of dying from heart disease than those who rarely or never did

Still if you do have a soda habit -- even a five-can-a-day one -- it isn't too late. Experts say that this telomere damage can be reversed.

A study that looked at men who adopted better habits over a five-year period -- things like more exercise, stress management and healthier eating -- were able to actually lengthen their telomeres by 10 percent. The men who didn't make any of those changes lost 3 percent of their telomere length.

So the next time someone offers you a Coke, you can tell them, "No thanks, Coke really doesn't 'add life.'"  It's actually just the opposite.

And while we're on the topic of soda...

Coke just launched a brand new soda in a green can sweetened with sugar and stevia. And they named it -- Coca-Cola Life. So is that the company's way of admitting that regular Coke is Coca-Cola Death?

Gulf War Syndrome Finally Has a Safe Treatment

Before Iraq and Afghanistan there was the Gulf War. And hundreds of thousands of veterans who served there are still suffering the consequences of that conflict.

The cause is now known to be exposure to a variety of chemicals and toxins. Exposures that damaged certain cells in their bodies, causing a wide range of chronic symptoms.

Even though these vets have been suffering with Gulf War Syndrome for over 20 years, and government agencies, doctors and hospitals have been looking for answers, not much has turned up that really helped.

Until now.

A just-published study has found that an easy-to-buy supplement has been able to achieve something that all the drugs and behavioral therapies haven't And it's something that you're very familiar with.

Coenzyme Q10 -- or CoQ10.

Researchers at the University of California in San Diego found that 80 percent of the Gulf War vets they treated with just 100 mg of CoQ10 a day showed significant improvement in physical function.

That's right...just 100 mg a day!

Lead author Dr. Beatrice Golomb, a professor of medicine at the university, said that all the evidence "links Gulf War illness to chemical exposures.

"These chemicals can damage mitochondria, which generate the energy our cells need to do their jobs," she said. "When these powerhouses of the cells are disrupted, it can produce symptoms compatible with those seen in Gulf War illness."

Once that happens you become vulnerable to all kinds of symptoms and diseases.

The vets in the study had symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, irritability, problems with recall and muscle pain. And that all improved during the CoQ10 therapy.

Dr. Golomb said that since civilians and veterans alike can suffer from "toxin-induced health problems," this research is of importance to everyone.

We already know how valuable CoQ10 is for the heart. But now it looks like this amazing antioxidant has found another way to serve.

Drinking Processed Cow's Milk Causes Early Death

(NaturalNews) The idea that consuming calcium-containing milk products is required to sustain healthy bones is quickly fading, as new research continues to unravel one of the food market's biggest myths.

Humans are the only mammals to continue drinking milk past infancy, and that there are actually other sources of nutrition more sufficient for building healthy bones.

A recent
study published in The British Medical Journal (BMJ) adds to that theory, suggesting that milk consumption doesn't prevent fractures that are often linked to osteoporosis, a condition involving brittle bones that affects 40 million Americans.

More than 200 million people suffer worldwide from osteoporosis, with the majority of them being women over 60. The most concentrated cases exist in Europe, North America and Japan, all of which consume a significant amount of dairy.

Researchers from Sweden, one of the countries that consume the most dairy per capita, examined the lifestyles and diets of more than 100,000 Swedes dating back as far as 1987 and tracking them until their death, or until Dec. 31, 2010.

The results showed that drinking milk did not reduce bone fractures, and those who drank the most milk where likely to die younger than their counterparts

Not only did the study's results dispel the myth that drinking milk helps prevent bone fractures, but the more milk women drank, the more fractures they had.

More than 17,000 women suffered from some type of fracture, with more than 4,000 of them being hip fractures. The women who drank at least three glasses of
milk per day were 16 percent more likely to break a bone, and 60 percent of the avid milk drinkers were more likely to have a hip fracture.

Regimented milk drinkers were 93 percent more likely to die during the study than their counterparts. Those who drank three or more glasses a day were 90 percent more likely to die of cardiovascular disease and 44 percent more likely to die of cancer, compared with women who drank just one glass of milk a day.

Men also experienced a higher risk of death and fractures in conjunction with higher milk consumption, but the distinction was less pronounced than in women.

"Our results may question the validity of recommendations to consume high amounts of milk to prevent fragility fractures," said the study's lead researcher, Professor Karl Michaelsson. While scientists say more studies are needed before making any definitive dietary recommendations, they agree that the role of milk in the U.S. needs to be reevaluated.

Sugar in milk causes aging mice

The risk of early death is likely linked to D-galactose, which is produced by the body as it breaks down the sugar found in milk. Previous studies show that chronic exposure to this nutrient induces "oxidative stress damage, chronic inflammation, neurodegeneration, decreased immune response, and gene transcriptional changes," scientists say.

D-galactose is known to mimic the effects of aging.

Consuming fermented products like yogurt is associated with lower risk for death and fractures

Women with high intakes of fermented dairy products like yogurt, cheese, butter and sour cream experienced lower rates of fractures and premature death than women who consumed less of these products.

Continued research on this subject is expected to change the way our country perceives milk consumption. Some experts are adamant that milk consumption is directly correlated with osteoporosis. After all, Europe and North America both have high rates of milk consumption, directly correlated with high incidences of hip fractures and disease, says The BMJ.

Mexico doesn't consume much milk and also has very low rates of osteoporosis.

My Comment:
The best way to build bone strength is to do load bearing exercise to stimulate bone growth. In addition, you will need the correct nutrients like vitamin D, a whole food calcium and magnesium supplement and high nutrition foods. Calcium Lactate is the best form of calcium to take. One of the few products using calcium lactate is Min-Tran (a calcium/magnesium supplement) made by Standard Process. Avoid all drugs especially the osteoporosis drugs and antacids which prevent your stomach from absorbing nutrients, they just make the problem worse. Milk is not beneficial for bones unless it is raw milk. Avoid low-fat and fat-free milk. Always use the least processed version for any foods.

One exception to the negative effects of drinking milk are the health benefits that come with drinking raw milk. Raw milk has many benefits not found in pasteurized milk that has been cooked which kills most of the nutrients found in raw milk. If you live in the Seattle area you can buy raw milk at Manna Mills in Mountlake Terrace. And I think PCC may carry it too.

When people come down with the flu there are the ads selling this drug to treat the flu.

And that would be Tamiflu.

Now you would think after all the scandal that's gone on with Tamiflu that health departments, the CDC, and doctors would stop recommending it and prescribing it.

Because Tamiflu can do lots of things, mostly things you definitely don't want. I'm talking about things like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

But when it comes to reducing the severity of flu symptoms and complications and even helping to stop transmission of the flu -- well, not so much.

Over 20 years ago Roche, which makes the drug, funded a lot of studies on it.

And then basically locked them in a vault.

But when the documents were finally forced out of hiding, they revealed that Tamiflu really doesn't work very well.

Even worse, for elderly and ill patients, the ones more likely to get complications from the flu, it did absolutely nothing!

And now new information has come to light claiming that the researchers who support the use of Tamiflu (and another antiviral drug) had their work funded by the drug companies.

What a surprise!

Study Shows Fluoride Causes Thyroid Disease

For years I've been warning you about the dangers of fluoride.

And for years the feds have been feeding us the Great Myth -- that ridiculous story of how beneficial it is for our teeth.

But even if it did prevent tooth decay -- which has never been proven -- this study alone should be enough to get it out of our water once and for all.

Researchers in England examined patient records from almost every single medical practice across the U.K. And they compared the health of residents in areas with water fluoridation to those living in unfluoridated communities

They found that people whose water contains fluoride had a 30 percent higher rate of thyroid disease -- specifically hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid.

And that's no simple little issue, because an underactive thyroid can affect every single organ in your body. When your thyroid is out of balance, everything else can go haywire.

Now, this was no little study, it covered almost the entire U.K., and was a look at the largest group of people to date.

The number of residents believed to be affected with hypothyroidism in the U.K. as a direct result of the fluoride in their water is said to be around 15,000. But that's a drop in the bucket compared to America.

In the UK, only 10 percent of people receive fluoridated water. Here, there are millions -- over 72 percent of the population.

The researchers also looked at two English cities side by side: Birmingham, which adds fluoride, and Manchester, which doesn't.

And those results were even more striking. Doctors in Birmingham reported treating twice as many people there with thyroid issues.

But it really should come as no surprise that fluoride can cause hypothyroidism. Because in the 1950s it was prescribed to treat an overactive thyroid. It's known that fluoride suppresses several enzymes vital to thyroid function and also interferes with iodine absorption.

And the doses that were given by doctors to fix an overactive thyroid are right in the same ballpark as what two-thirds of us are taking every single day!

Of course there could be many more people affected in the U.K. than this study uncovered. It only counted those who were receiving medical treatment for hypothyroidism. And when you see the varied symptoms you can have if your thyroid isn't functioning correctly, it's obvious not everyone, doctors included, will connect the dots.

For example, some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism include:

  • uncontrollable weight gain,
  • memory problems,
  • high cholesterol,
  • joint and muscle pain,
  • depression, anxiety and mood swings,
  • sensitivity to cold,
  • exhaustion
So clearly it's easy to dismiss one or more of those problems with various other excuses.

Now, the feds have been fiddling around with the "safe" level of fluoride in our water for over nine years, and they still haven't come to any conclusions.

So if you live in a community that adds fluoride to your drinking water, it's time to take things into your own hands and get a water purification system installed in your home. And start pushing city officials to remove it from our water.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
