Small Study Results

Green tea improves exercise performance

Would decaffeinated green tea have the same metabolic benefits as caffeinated? To find out, researchers gave 14 recreationally active men, average age 21 with healthy body weight and fat, 571 mg of decaffeinated green tea extract per day, or a placebo.

Once before, during, and after the four-week study period, the men cycled for one hour at half their aerobic capacity, then took a 40-minute performance exercise test. After four weeks, while the placebo group had not changed, the decaffeinated green tea group burned fat at a 25 percent faster rate, increased performance distance by 11 percent, and had 1.63 percent less body fat.

Doctors said decaffeinated green tea extract along with exercise increased fat metabolism, reduced body fat and improved metabolic efficiency, and that exercising at less than capacity may stimulate the metabolism and help people maintain longer term training programs.

Vitamin K2 helps keep blood vessels flexible; a link to longevity

In the first study on long-term vitamin K2 supplementation and cardiovascular health, 244 healthy postmenopausal women took 180 mcg of vitamin K2 (menaquinone-7 form) per day, or a placebo.

After three years, while the placebo group had an increase in blood vessel stiffness, women who took vitamin K2 saw an average 33 percent improvement in blood vessel flexibility.

Discussing the findings, doctors said it was remarkable that the women taking vitamin K2 not only did not experience the typical age-related stiffening of the arterial walls, but also saw measurable improvements in vascular elasticity across the entire circulatory system compared to the placebo group. Arterial flexibility has a direct link to longevity.

Lutein and zeaxanthin may improve vision in early AMD

Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids that can filter the harmful blue light that damages eye cells, and must be dense enough in the macula of the eye to provide protection. Doctors measure this protection as "macular pigment optical density" or MPOD.

In this study, 112 people with early age-related macular degeneration (AMD) took 10 mg of lutein with or without 10 mg of zeaxanthin per day, 20 mg of lutein alone per day, or a placebo.

After two years, lutein alone or with zeaxanthin increased MPOD compared to placebo. Retinal function—a measure of vision—increased significantly in the central retina, where vision first deteriorates in AMD.

A significant percentage of the population has early AMD, and most studies have focused only on late-stage AMD. Doctors said lutein and zeaxanthin may also increase MPOD and improve visual performance in healthy people without AMD.

World's most powerful immune booster is completely FREE!

Apparently a good night's rest is nature's best immune-booster.

You've heard your own doc urge you to get some rest whenever you're sick. But if you get all the sleep you really need, you might never hear him say it again... because you might never get sick again!

New research finds a direct link between poor sleep and infection risk. And if you're missing out right now -- if you're not getting all the sleep you need -- you're up to 450 percent more likely to catch a cold.

In the study, 164 healthy folks wore devices for a week to track their sleep and get their average levels.

Then, these folks were deliberately infected with rhinovirus, the virus behind the common cold. And when I say "deliberately infected" I don't mean they had to share a soda with someone who was sick. The virus was sprayed up their nose.

You'd think everyone would get sick, being that directly exposed to the virus. But not everyone did. Those who got at least seven hours of shuteye a night were practically germ-proof, with many not suffering so much as a sniffle despite being deliberately infected with the virus.

Folks who got less than five hours a night were 4.5 times more likely to get sick than the folks who got seven hours, while those who slept six hours or less were 4.2 times more likely to get sick.

When it comes down to it, the researchers say sleep is the single most important risk factor when it comes to catching or avoiding a cold -- more important than age or even stress.

And while the study focused on the common cold, you can bet that good sleep will protect you from a whole lot more, including everything from flu to dementia.

Are Fetal Cells Really Used In Vaccines?

Article by Jenny Thompson at HSI

More than a year ago I revealed that certain vaccines are made with -- and contain -- fetal cells and DNA from aborted babies.

And since that time, pro-vaccine doctors, drug companies and politicians have been working overtime to cover their tracks.

Many of them will still lie right to your face and claim it isn't true.

But now a New York mother of an autistic child has put the entire vaccine industry on notice. She won a two-year fight to get her state to admit that one of the most common vaccines on the market is made with aborted fetal tissue.

And that no child should ever be forced to get it.

States like California and Rhode Island have spent the past year attacking your religious freedoms with mandatory vaccine laws that end faith-based exemptions.

Pro-vax politicians like California Senator Richard Pan have even lied to state residents and claimed that the notion that vaccines contain fetal DNA is a "myth."

But in New York, government agencies are actually looking at the evidence -- and they're singing a very different tune.

State Education Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia recently ruled in favor of a Russian immigrant woman's claim that allowing her autistic child to be given a measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine made with and containing fetal cells violated her Orthodox beliefs.

Believe me, this wasn't an easy process. At first, the mother's request was rejected, and she spent two years trying to convince the state that her religious beliefs were sincere enough.

But thank goodness some sanity prevailed.

Commissioner Elia ruled that the woman, who has not been named, was entitled to her own faith-based objections. Especially because the state found that the mother submitted clear and convincing evidence that the MMR vaccine was made using DNA from aborted babies.

That admission alone should make it a lot easier for other New York parents to opt out of vaccines like MMR for their kids. But as you can imagine, it sent a lot of vaccine supporters into hissy fits.

When the story hit the press, state Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz put his two cents in, saying "It's too easy to get an exemption."

Are you kidding me? It took this poor mom years!

Fox News celebrity doctor Dr. Manny Alvarez also chimed in, calling the victory "a mistake" and claiming that the mother was "poorly informed."

But apparently, he's the one who is poorly informed.

He tried to reassure his viewers by claiming that the leftover fetal DNA in these vaccines is safe and is just an "infinitesimal amount." As if even one cell or gene wouldn't be too many!

But this spring I told you about a study conducted by Dr. Theresa Deisher that exposed the frightening connection between the MMR shot and childhood cancers.

You see, one of the fetal cells lines (it goes by the code name of WI-38) in the MMR vaccine came from an aborted baby girl in Sweden who was contaminated with a retrovirus.

Dr. Deisher found that virus can be "reactivated" and is commonly associated with lymphomas in children.

She also discovered that every time a vaccine made with ingredients from aborted babies was introduced, there is a giant rise in the rates of autism.

So the MMR shot, the one this mom fought so hard to keep her child from receiving, is strongly connected to cancer and autism.

While this was just one mom, in one state, it's still a giant victory.

And it's a good reminder that we all need to keep leaning on our state representatives and health officials to stop these attacks on our religious freedoms and our right to protect our kids.

Treating Termites and Bedbugs Safely

When termites and other critters set up shop in your home, you'll hear how important it is to take care of the problem and protect your investment.

But before you let an exterminator anywhere near the bedroom where you sleep... the dining room where you eat... or the parlor where your grandkids roll around on the floor, there's a life-or-death question you need to ask.

Who's going to be protecting you?

Because exterminators across the country are using a powerful pesticide called Vikane (sulfuryl fluoride) that has a dark secret you won't read about in a Terminix brochure.

This colorless, odorless chemical can stay in your home -- poisoning everyone in it -- for weeks after you've been told it's safe to return.

And it can attack your brain, destroy your organs and even kill you before you ever realize you're in danger.

"Life as he's known it has been stolen from him."

That's how the uncle of 10-year-old Peyton McCaughey describes what happened to the boy after his run-in with Vikane.

Peyton and his family were told their Florida home was safe after a Terminix contractor fumigated it with Vikane for termites. But within days Peyton started losing muscle control -- and soon he couldn't stand or talk.

He's been confined to a hospital bed since August. And he's not alone.

While the EPA doesn't keep very good records on deaths linked to Vikane and other fumigation chemicals, there are plenty of stories out there. Like the toddler who died after chemicals soaked her mattress and literally poisoned her while she slept.

If you've ever had a house treated with Vikane, you were probably told every precaution was being made to protect you. The house is tented or tarped, and you're not let back in until air levels are safe.

But what most people aren't told is that there are plenty of ways the gas can remain in your home for days or weeks -- even if it's not detectable in the air.

Studies have found that Vikane can become trapped inside polyester, polystyrene insulation, wood and even latex baby bottle nipples.

Even worse, wool, polyester cushions and items such as plastic toys have been found to give off Vikane gas for as long as 40 days after your home has been fumigated.

That's nearly six weeks!

And when you're exposed to Vikane, it heads right to your brain and attacks your central nervous system. You can feel dizzy, nauseous, and start slurring your words -- a lot of the same symptoms as a stroke -- and if you've received a toxic dose, there is no antidote a doctor can give you to reverse the poison.

Unfortunately, Vikane has become the gas of choice for lots of exterminators, especially those treating termites. And it looks like the problem is about to get worse.

That's because Vikane manufacturer Dow is now pitching the poison to exterminators as a treatment for bedbugs.

Now, I know that termites and certainly bedbugs can be a terrible nuisance. But allowing someone to pump a poison gas into your home to solve the problem is what can turn an annoyance into a tragedy.

You can keep your family safe by opting for a nontoxic or minimally toxic methods of controlling them. There's a great group called Beyond Pesticides that has simple -- and safe -- alternatives for
treating bedbugs and termites.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
