Mercury, Soy and Women, Fasting for Cancer, Eat More Fat

'Normal' amounts of mercury can cause disease

Ladies, you're being poisoned at every turn.

The mercury turning up in positively everything is the REAL cause of many of the autoimmune diseases mainstream doctors are powerless to treat -- including lupus, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and MS.

And now, a new study shows how it happens.

Once this toxic heavy metal gets into your system, it damages your thyroid gland -- causing it to pump out the antibodies associated with autoimmune disease in women.

In fact, a look at data on 2,047 women who took part in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey finds that those with the highest blood levels of mercury also had the highest levels of those thyroid antibodies (and if these women aren't fighting an autoimmune disease yet, they may as well start counting down the days until they do.)

Here's the most outrageous part: The "high" levels of mercury linked to the presence of these autoimmune antibodies are considered PERFECTLY SAFE for humans by the U.S. government.

Mercury isn't just bad for women. It's bad for everyone, because mercury exposure can cause or contribute to autism, developmental problems, immune system disorders, heart disease, and more.

Most people are at least aware of the fact that some fish can contain mercury -- but it's not the only common source of this powerful toxic metal. It's turning up everywhere, and you don't have to open a can of tuna to be exposed.

In fact, you'll find mercury in:
  • food
  • water
  • cosmetics
  • government-mandated CFL light bulbs
  • amalgam fillings
  • vaccinations
Those are just SOME of the common sources, and we're not talking low levels here. The exposure levels can be dangerously high, especially when you add them up.

The only safe level of mercury exposure is as close to zero as you can get.

And if there's anything that's ruining lives faster than mercury, especially in women, it's soy.

The dangerous way to ease hot flashes

Soy may be a food, but it acts more like a dangerous unregulated drug, and most people are getting dosed with it at every meal.

We should be getting very little soy, but instead the mainstream is busily trying to cook up ways to sell us MORE -- like the new study that claims it can reduce the number of hot flashes during menopause.

Does it work? Barely -- and even that's debatable.

In a review of 19 studies involving a combined 1,200 women, researchers claim that soy in any number of forms -- from soy "milk" to old tofu -- offered minor improvements in the frequency and severity of hot flashes.

But the only reason it MIGHT work at all is what I've said all along: Soy is more like a hormone than a food -- specifically it's a plant version of estrogen.

Soy backers grudgingly admit this is true, but they've always claimed it's so weak it doesn't have any estrogen-like effects inside the body.

Sounds to me like they're trying to have it both ways on this. On the one hand, it's too weak to affect the body. On the other, it's so strong it can reduce hot flash frequency and severity in ways that we know estrogen can.

Which is it?

But it's a moot point anyway, because the last thing anyone needs -- even women who really do need more estrogen -- is fluctuating doses of female hormones from soy.

Soy can wreak havoc on the immune systems of women and disrupt or damage the adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary glands in men and women alike (and let's not forget that it can give even a "manly man" his very own set of boobs).

Ladies, if you're looking to beat "the change," you might need some estrogen -- but stick with tried-and-true identical hormone therapy from an experienced naturopathic physician.

Fasting for Cancer

The old adage, "Feed a fever, starve a cold," has long been debunked. Whether you have a fever or a cold, your body needs high quality nutrients.

But starving -- or rather, fasting -- might actually be a great cancer-fighting tool.

A few years ago, I told you about encouraging research from the University of Southern California. With animal studies, USC researchers showed that a two-day fast before chemotherapy reduced common chemo side effects.

As researcher Valter Longo explained to HealthDay News, healthy cells have a "shield mode" that naturally protects them from stressors, such as starvation. So when fasting energizes shield mode, the shielding effect also protects cells from the harsh chemo assault.

More recently, Longo and his colleagues confirmed their animal research with human case studies. They found that most cancer patients who fast before chemo significantly reduce side effects such as nausea and fatigue.

But this method of protecting healthy cells raised a troubling question: Were cancer cells also protected?

The USC team returned to animal testing. Over several years, they studied a variety of fasting regimens with different types of cancers and chemotherapy drugs.

They found that fasting actually sensitizes cancer cells. So not only were healthy cells protected, but cancer cells became more vulnerable and chemo was more effective.

How wonderful is that? Less pain and suffering. Increased chance of survival.

Further human research is in the works. But for now, short-term fasting appears to be a huge double-win for cancer patients.

Sweden rejects low-fat diet myth, encourages citizens to cut carbs and eat more fat

(NaturalNews) Calories are calories, no matter where they come from. People are fat because they don't exercise enough. Eating low-fat foods will help you lose weight. These and many other common dietary myths are no longer part of Sweden's official guidelines for healthy living, as the Scandinavian country has reportedly become the first Western nation in the world to officially embrace a high-fat, low-carbohydrate dietary protocol as optimal for good health.

According to Health Impact News, Sweden decided to scrap its former low-fat diet dogma, which is still embraced by the U.S. and most other Western countries, after an independent committee comprised of doctors and other health experts determined it to be total quackery. This committee, known as the Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment, pored through tens of thousands of studies published on the subject through May 31, 2013, to arrive at this conclusion, which corroborates with what many in the natural health community have been saying for years.

"Butter, olive oil, heavy cream, and bacon are not harmful foods," reads an English translation of a local Swedish newspaper, reporting on the committee's findings. "Quite the opposite. Fat is the best thing for those who want to lose weight. And there are no connections between a high fat intake and cardiovascular disease."

These incredibly bold statements fly in the face of mainstream dietary dogma, especially in the U.S., where chemical and pharmaceutical companies hold significant influence over health policy. But they are true nonetheless and show that at least some countries are taking seriously the copious scientific evidence proving fats to be beneficial, and refined sugars and processed flours detrimental.

"When all recent scientific studies are lined up the result is indisputable: our deep-seated fear of fat is completely unfounded," says Prof. Frederik Nystrom, one of the committee members who commissioned the study. "You don't get fat from fatty foods, just as you don't get atherosclerosis from calcium or turn green from green vegetables."

Low-fat, high-carb dietary recommendations responsible for high rates of obesity, diabetes

One major finding of the committee was that carbohydrates are directly responsible for raising blood sugar levels and promoting weight gain. Unlike fats, carbs tend to raise blood sugar levels, leading to excess production of insulin and eventually diabetes, as well as increased triglyceride levels. And carbs are what actually make people fat, not fats, as is commonly believed.

"For a long time, the health care system has given the public advice to avoid fat, saturated fat in particular, and calories," writes Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, a popular Swedish doctor, on her blog DietDoctor.com. "This report turns the current concepts upside down and advocates a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet, as the most effective weapon against obesity."

Prof. Nystrom says individuals need to start rejecting all the high-carb foods that the government has been telling them for years to keep eating, and instead focus on eating more fats. He also believes governments have done a great disservice to public health by constantly blaming obesity on lack of exercise, which is just one small piece of the obesity puzzle.

"This kind of nonsense has people with weight problems feeling bad about themselves, as if it were all about their inferior character," he is quoted as saying. "For many people a greater intake of fat means that you'll feel satiated, stay so longer, and have less of a need to eat every five minutes. On the other hand, you won't feel satiated after drinking a Coke, or after eating almost fat free, low-fat fruit yogurt loaded with sugar. Sure, exercise is great in many ways, but what really affects weight is diet."

My Comment:
I have been saying for a long time that fats are not the problem.  It is the type of fat that is the issue. Avoid vegetable oils and hydrogenated oils. We get way too much vegetable oil in our diet from processed foods and those oils are low in Omega 3's and high in Omega 6.  This has caused the average American to be out of balance with far too much Omega 6 in our diet. Taking fish oil, flax oil or krill oil supplements can help fill our need for the missing omega 3's. Choosing the right oil in your diet is so important.  Use olive oil, coconut oil , and grape seed oil for cooking. Coconut and Grape Seed are best for higher temperature cooking as they have the highest smoking point. Coconut and Olive oil are the best for your health and can be used in your everyday life.  Costco and Trader Joes have very good prices on organic coconut oil and olive oil.

Carbs are far more damaging to your health than fats. Carbs cause your blood sugar to spike and over time that leads to diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and many more illnesses. Reduce your carb consumption and you will stay thinner and much healthier.

Until next time, stay healthy and happy
